MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A local shelter that has helped homeless women and children for three decades is expanding its reach.
Lucy’s Hearth celebrated the acquisition of a new facility in Middletown on Monday.
The building needs some renovations but once it’s finished, it will increase the number of families Lucy’s Hearth supports.
Local lawmakers were also on hand, applauding the organization’s work over the years.
“I have been a strong supporter of Lucy’s Hearth for many many years because of the work they do, day in and day out, for women and their children,” says State Representative Deb Ruggiero. “It’s more than a shelter, it’s family, it’s home, it’s love, it’s hope.”
Temporary housing is just one element of Lucy’s Hearth. The organization provides 24-hour support to families, helping them become self-sufficient and ultimately break the cycle of homelessness.
