CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI)- A local army veteran is finally awarded medals he earned while serving in the Korean War.
84-year-old Astillodore St. Angelo was presented his medals by Senator Jack Reed this week at his Cranston office. St. Angelo recieved the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
The orders for the awards note that Mr. Astillodore St. Angelo “distinguished himself during the Korean War” and his “dedication to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army and the United States of America.”
Sergeant St. Angelo was only 21 years-old when he joined the army in the summer of 1952.
