NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Bristol County officials are gearing up to spray mosquito larvicides early Thursday morning in New Bedford, and are advising residents to close their windows on Wednesday night.
The Bristol County Mosquito Control Project will be conducting targeted ground spraying from about 2 a.m. until sunrise, weather permitting, in these areas:
- Buttonwood Park
- Brooklawn Park
- Fort Taber
- Hazelwood Park
- Riverside Park
- Clasky Park
- Ashley Park
- Poor Farm area
The project employees have also set out traps to monitor mosquitoes that could be carrying Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) or West Nile Virus (WNV).
The officials advise you to avoid mosquito bites by staying inside from dusk to dawn, using repellent containing products like DEET or oil of lemon eucalyptus (though neither are advised for small children), wearing protective clothing, including long sleeves and pants, and repairing screens on windows.
