HOUMA, La (WPRI) – The Block Island offshore wind project is on the move.
Eyewitness News has learned turbines could start going up by mid-July.
This past weekend, crews from Gulf Island Fabrication in Houma, Louisiana loaded jacket foundations and one of the decks aboard a transport barge.
The ship will set sail later this week for Block Island.
Five turbines have been approved for the off-shore wind farm, which will be the nation’s first.
