SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — It’s an unfortunate hazard of summer. Everyone wants to go to the beach at the same time.
Beaches in South Kingstown were packed Friday, including East Matunuck State Beach, along with traffic gridlock.
South Kingstown Police said no parking spots were left at East Matunuck by midday, and it forced officers to start turning people away, Police Capt. Joel Ewing-Chow told Eyewitness News.
Eyewitness News captured traffic slowed to a snail’s pace on the roads around the beach.
Four beaches were closed to swimming by the Rhode Island Department of Health as of Friday, but that was because of unhealthy conditions — not overcrowding.
