BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Rescue crews will return to the waters off the coast of Barrington trying to locate a missing boater.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management pulled a boat out of the water in Haines Park around 10 p.m. Thursday with no one on board.
“We’ve run the boat’s registration at this point in time, so we think we have an idea of who owns the boat and who may be on it or who may have been in it,” said Lt. Joseph Poccia of the DEM.
According to the Barrington Fire Chief, a report of an overdue boater came in around 5:30 p.m. The Narragansett Marine Boat Task Force led a search of the area with six divers scouring the water. Eyewitness News crews reported seeing rescue boats out in front of Rhode Island Country Club.
The Coast Guard, meanwhile, searched from above in a helicopter until sunset, when the search was called off until Friday morning.
Officials said the man went out boating Thursday morning and did not return when he was expected.
