BARNSTABLE, Mass. (WPRI) – Police in Massachusetts intercepted a van full of fireworks Friday evening after being tipped off by police in New Hampshire.
According to Barnstable police, the New Hampshire State Fire Marshalls Office contacted them about a pair of women who had bought a large quantity of fireworks in New Hampshire and were reportedly taking them back to Hyannis.
Massachusetts state law prohibits the possession of fireworks, even if they are legally bought in other states.
Police identified the rented van which the two women were driving and forwarded the information to police in Massachusetts; State Troopers found it on Route 6 and stopped it, finding more than $7,000 worth of fireworks in the back.
The driver, 24 year-old Kayla Majors of Marstons Mills, was summonsed for illegal possession of fireworks. Her 24 year-old passenger from Hyannis was not cited.
Barnstable police confiscated the fireworks, which will be destroyed by the state bomb squad.
