Community raises more than $8K to help sick puppies

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Last week, The Providence Animal Rescue League reached out to the community for help. Three very sick dogs, suffering from Parvovirus, were brought to the shelter in need of emergency medical care.

The estimated cost of treatment was expected to be more than $2,500, so PARL asked for help in raising the necessary funds.

PARL said the response was amazing and more than $10,000 has been donated to PARL’s Betsy’s Fund. The money donated will help cover the cost of caring for the three sick puppies.

According to the rescue league, the two six-week-old Shepherd/Husky mix puppies named May and Sally are showing significant signs of improvement.

Unfortunately, their older Chihuahua sister named Squishy, is still struggling to fight off the virus.

The illness, which does not affect humans, is highly contagious and can cause vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. It can often be fatal if left untreated, especially in younger dogs.

To help May, Sally, Squishy, and other shelter animals in need of medical treatment, donations can be made to Betsy’s Fund at http://parl.org/get-involved/betsys-fund.
