Lone Wolf Terror: A growing trend

Federal investigators said Ciccolo was modeling a deadly attack along the lines of Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

ADAMS, Mass. (WWLP) – He’s the newest face to strike fear in America, 23-year-old Alexander Ciccolo was arrested and accused of planning a so-called “lone-wolf” home-grown terror attack from his Adams apartment.

Our sister station, 22News, looked into this dreaded, deadly and growing trend in terrorism.  It’s one that’s occurring with increasing frequency in the U.S.

According to federal investigators, Ciccolo, the son of a Boston Police Captain, was assembling a pressure cooker bomb and Molotov cocktails, modeling a deadly attack along the lines of Boston Marathon Bombers, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Just last month, Boston Police shot and killed an ISIS-inspired man after he waved a large military knife at them. On June 17th, a “lone-wolf” white supremacist shot and killed nine people in a Charleston, South Carolina Church. And on May 5th, an off-duty Garland, Texas police officer shot and killed two well-armed men intent on killing as many people as they could outside a “Draw Muhammad” competition.

It is difficult to keep track of a growing number of home grown terrorists. Law enforcement is watching for these “Lone Wolves,” the extremists’ latest weapon in their unholy war against civilized people.
