Condition of swimmer struck by boat in Westerly improves

WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — Investigators are still searching for a boat that struck a swimmer off the coast of Westerly Tuesday.

According to Rhode Island Hospital, 56-year-old James Delisle is now listed in good condition after he was admitted with serious injuries.

Delisle was swimming in the area of the Watch Hill lighthouse at about 3:15 p.m. when he was hit, suffering lacerations to his back, shoulders and arms.

Lifeguards and several other people helped him to shore before he was rushed to the hospital.

Police are now looking to speak with the driver of the boat, which left the scene after Delisle was hit.
