Governor directs flags at half-staff to honor shooting victims

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The state of Rhode Island will pay tribute to five service members killed in last week’s attack on a recruitment center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Governor Gina Raimondo has ordered all Rhode Island flags at half-staff at state facilities and buildings in honor of the four Marines and a Navy sailor who were killed.

“We are all indebted to our military servicemen and women for their sacrifices, their dedication, and their duty to country,” said Raimondo. “All Rhode Islanders mourn last week’s tragic acts of violence in Chattanooga. The families and loves ones of all those affected by this attack will be in our thoughts and prayers.”

Marine Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Sullivan was killed in last week’s attack. He was a Springfield, Massachusetts native.
