PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rising senior Austin French of the Brown baseball team was chosen to represent the East Team as the starting pitcher at the 2015 Futures League All-Star Game, played Tuesday at Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts.
French, a member of the Seacoast Mavericks, earned the starting nod for the East team that edged the West side, 4-3, in the annual FCBL tilt. The left-handed pitcher is in the middle of an impressive stint with the Mavericks this summer, as he leads the team with a 1.99 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched.
French made 10 appearances for the Bears as a junior this past spring, including three starts in conference play as a member of the weekend rotation. He ranked fourth on the team in strikeouts (30) and fourth in innings pitched (31.1). French posted a season-high nine strikeouts in 4.1 innings out of the bullpen against Columbia in early April.
He is the third member of the Bears to earn All-Star recognition this summer, along with Rob Henry (Cranston, R.I.) in the California Collegiate League and Noah Shulman (Merrick, N.Y.) in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League.
