PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man and a woman from Providence were arrested on firearm and drug distribution charges, officials say.
According to Colonel Steven O’Donnell of the Rhode Island Sate Police, members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force executed a search warrant at a home on Fillmore Street Thursday.
Police said two people, Diogenes Rodriquez, 40, and Maria Quinones, 32, were arrested as a result of the investigation.
During a search of the home, police said they seized a .45 caliber Glock semi-automatic handgun, about 140 grams of MDMA or Molly, and $761 in cash.
Rodriquez is charged with manufacture and possession with intent to deliver Molly, possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm while committing a controlled substance violation.
Quinones is charged with manufacture and possession with intent to deliver Molly.
“There is a direct connection between drug trafficking and gun violence. This arrest takes an alleged armed drug trafficker and a firearm off the streets and hopefully sends a strong message to those who chose to follow the same path. This is important work for our commitment in helping to keep the community safe,” said O’Donnell.
Both suspects were arraigned in Sixth Division District Court, according to police.
Rodriquez was ordered held without bail until a bail hearing, while Quinones was ordered held on $25,000 surety bail.
A bail hearing for both suspects has been scheduled for August 4.
