Connecticut man killed in crash near state line

COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — A Connecticut man was pronounced dead Wednesday night after he crashed his SUV at the Rhode Island border, police confirm.

The single-car crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Plainfield Pike. According to police, the crash started in Connecticut, but ended over the border in Coventry.

Police said the driver, identified only as a 54-year-old man from Moosup, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead.

Police said the SUV sustained major damage in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
