NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — New Bedford’s Feast of the Blesses Sacrament kicked off Thursday — bringing in thousands of people for Portuguese food, drinks and entertainment.
And while event organizers said they channeled all of their energy into making it a fun, cultural experience each year — safety is always top priority.

“We have state of the art wristband machines. Anybody who comes to the feast, we scan their license, they’ll tell us if it’s active, if it’s good they’ll get a wristband and they’ll be able to buy alcoholic beverages,” said President of the 2015 feast, Nelson DeGouveia.
