MANSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — State police are stepping up efforts to find the person they say fired a hunting rifle at a marked department cruiser in Mansfield earlier this month.
Police on Thursday released more details about items found at the spot from which the shot was fired on July 23.
The trooper, who was not hurt, was on Route 140 when he reported hearing a loud noise and seeing a large amount of white smoke.
In addition to a Thompson Triumph .50 caliber muzzleloader with a 28-inch Weather Shield coated barrel, investigators found a RedHead backpack and a RedHead hunting cap, both with a camouflage design, at the site where the shot came from.
The trooper saw a white male wearing light-colored clothing run from the scene and into the woods.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact Massachsuetts State Police at (508) 961-1928.
