LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WPRI) — Authorities in Massachusetts are investigating after a construction worker was killed Friday.
Eyewitness News has learned that both police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident – where a man became trapped in a water-filled trench during a sewer project.
Our sister station in Springfield reports that the accident happened just before 8 a.m. Friday in Longmeadow, Mass., when a water main broke and the trench filled with water.
By noon, the Longmeadow Police Chief said the worker’s body was pulled from the trench.
According to the town manager, the worker was a member of a crew from Ludlow-based construction firm A. Martins and Sons, which had been working on the project.
The identity of the man has not yet been released.
