Female pedestrian struck while crossing Route 146

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police and state police are both investigating a pedestrian accident around 5 a.m. on Route 146 North by the Branch Avenue exit.

Eyewitness News has learned that a woman was taken away in an ambulance and another person was put into the back of a police car.

According to Rhode Island State Police, a woman was attempting to cross the highway from the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes when she was struck by a box truck.

The pedestrian was sent to Rhode Island Hospital suffering serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
