RI companies introduce coffee milk ice cream

Warwick Ice Cream's Autocrat Coffee Milk Ice Cream

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Local companies are teaming up to turn Rhode Island’s official state beverage into a frozen dessert.

On Friday, Warwick Ice Cream ran its first production run of its new Autocrat coffee milk ice cream.

“Coffee milk is the official drink of Rhode Island, and what better platform than ice cream,” said Thomas Bucci of Warwick Ice Cream.

Company officials say the ice cream is something that Rhode Islanders can call their own.

Warwick Ice Cream has been around for 85 years – and you could say the family has ice cream in their blood.

“We talk about ice cream and new flavors everyday. Over at the dinner table, when we’re at work, when we’re in a meeting – all the time,” Bucci said.

The coffee milk ice cream is mixed in a flavor vat, turned into a soft serve consistency, and eventually fed through a rotary pint-filler, which tackles 40 pints per minute. Then it is sealed, packaged, and sent to the freezer.

Bucci says the new flavor has been in development for the last year. It will be available at Dave’s Marketplace locations in Rhode Island beginning next week.

“I’m so excited to see people’s reactions because this product, from it’s inception until now, has been strictly for the people of Rhode Island,” said Vinny Bucci. “And we’re just so excited to see how they like it. And this is our little gift to our loyal patrons.”
