Early-morning shooting results in one injury

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Detectives are investigating an early-morning shooting in Providence.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Cranston Street at about 3:30 a.m. for a report of multiple shots fired.

Officers found a scene near the intersection of Cranston Street and Anthony Avenue, although there was no victim there.

Police located a victim, a 21 year-old man, a short distance away on Sorrento Street. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was subsequently taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment; police said his injury was not believed to be life-threatening.

The victim wasn’t able to tell officers anything about the shooting and the case was turned over to detectives for further investigation.
