New Bedford police arrest 12 in prostitution sting

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in New Bedford have arrested 12 men in connection to a prostitution sting, the department announced Friday.

According to police, all 12 suspects are charged with allegedly offering to engage in sex with an undercover female officer for a fee.

The arrests were made in the north end of the city between 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Thursday when members of the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau set up an undercover prostitution sting, police said.

The following suspects are facing charges and are scheduled to be arraigned Friday in New Bedford district court:

  • Eric Hanserd, 53, of New Bedford, Mass.
  • Camilo Rodriguez Morente, 42, of New Bedford, Mass.
  • Marquis Gainey, 23, of Oklahoma City, OK
  • Robert Martin, 39, of East Providence, RI
  • Antonio DaPonte, 48, of New Bedford, Mass.
  • Juan Vasquez-Escobar, 31, of New Bedford, Mass.
  • Christian Joseph, 28, of Mansfield, Mass.
  • Abel Rego Pinhancos, 49, of New Bedford, Mass,
  • Eduardo Alves, 41, of New Bedford, Mass.
  • Domingos Avelino, 51, of Dorchester, Mass.
  • Carlos Gomes Rodrigues, 41, of New Bedford, Mass.
  • John Antunes, 24, of New Bedford, Mass.
