Rhode Island unemployment now 15th worst in nation

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island is tied as the 15th worst state in the nation for unemployment.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the state’s July unemployment rate of 5.8 percent was tied with Missouri and Illinois.

Rhode Island has been recovery slowly from several years of double-digit unemployment, when its jobs picture ranked among the worst in the nation.

The state’s unemployment rate is the highest in New England, where Connecticut ranks next highest with 5.4 percent. Joblessness in Vermont is the lowest, at 3.6 percent.
