PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police have arrested a pair of suspects in connection with a late-night shooting incident in Providence.
The gunfire erupted on Health Avenue around 10 p.m. Thursday.
Approximately 25 shots were fired into two homes, but no people were struck, according to police.
Police announced Friday that Adrian Aponte was arrested in connection with the incident, then later in the day announced the arrest of 38-year-old Carlos Rodriguez.
Investigators believe the altercation started as a dispute over money.
Police documents obtained by Eyewitness News revealed that three children – ages 7, 9, and 12 – were inside Aponte’s home. Several children were also inside the home across the street.
“Thank God no one was injured, but there was an extreme chance that somebody could have been,” said Major David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department.
Aponte and Rodriguez are both facing gun charges – including assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.
“We take it very seriously and that will reflect in the charges of both individuals,” Lapatin said.
