NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A Fairhaven woman is facing charges after police said she broke into three cars in New Bedford overnight.

Police responded to Seabury Street at about 4 a.m. after an eyewitness reported seeing a woman rummaging through a vehicle.

After taking down the suspect’s description, the officers noticed an open gate on nearby Church Street and found two more vehicles that had been rummaged through.

The suspect – identified as Rebecca Botelho – was found by police hiding in a yard behind some shrubs.

Cash was taken from each of the vehicles, all of which appeared to have been left unlocked overnight, according to police.

Botelho, 24, of Florence Street, was scheduled to be arraigned Friday on three counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony.
