(WPRI) — Some parents claim Huggies baby wipes have tiny glass shards inside. The warning is spreading fast on social media with many posting pictures of the alleged sharp objects.

Aspen Patterson, a mother of two, checked her wipes and said she found pieces of glass in her package. She told KRQE her son has had a rash ever since she started using the wipes last month.

“We use the Natural Care one, so it should be natural stuff,” Patterson said. “It’s supposed to be soft fibers, you know, there should not be anything hard on it.”

Other parents believe the product is defective and some have asked that the baby wipes be recalled. Huggies assures the product is safe and responded to the claims on Friday by releasing a statement on the company’s Facebook page.

Part of the statement says “Some of you have commented about the shiny particles seen in our wipes. While this condition is not normal, it does happen infrequently during the manufacturing process. When combined, the fibers in our wipes have on occasion created shiny particles, similar to what was found by this parent.”

The popular baby brand is trying to respond individually to the hundreds of people commenting on the post online. But, have also asked consumers to call them with concerns or questions. They also set up a new page on their website specifically for this topic.

“We are currently in the process of testing the product in question from the consumer which will allow us to conduct a full investigation. Once test results are completed, we will share our findings publicly,” the company said.

Huggies said they will not be recalling the wipes “because our product is safe, and poses no health risk to babies.”

According to the company, no injuries have been reported.
