Below are the recommendations by Barrington Books:

The Day The Crayons Came Home
By Drew Dewalt and Oliver Jeffers
The highly anticipated companion to the #1 blockbuster bestseller, The Day the Crayons Quit
Featuring Duncan and a colorful cast of characters and their hilarious tales of woe!

If you’re looking for an unforgettable chapter book to share at bedtime, FIREFLY HOLLOW by NYTimes Best Selling author Alison McGhee and beautifully illustrated by RI’s very own Christopher Denise. Firefly Hollow is nothing short of enchanting, reminding us all that the very best friend is the one who wants you to achieve your dreams.

The older, more independent readers will be expected to read nightly as part of their homework. In my house it’s “read for 30” every night. Take this opportunity to re-read the classics with your child. Check out these gorgeous new editions of some of the all-time favorites like Little Woman and Heidi (Puffin in Bloom Classic editions). We have more attractive editions of classic adventure tales like Sherlock Holmes as well.

If you have older children that don’t need (or want) you to read with them, then take those same 30 minutes for pleasure reading for yourself. In this age of mindfulness we all need to find time to unplug. This is a perfect chance to set a new intention to read each night, or indulge in the new adult coloring crazy to distress. These are actually mine – I had to see for myself what this new trend is all about – and I have to say, they’ve got something here! It’s very relaxing… unless you’re a perfectionist like me and get frustrated easily.

And lastly, Back-to-School means back to the kitchen for many of us! This is a great time to try new recipes, whip out that slow cooker and get creative with family mealtime.
