FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Two Massachusetts men have been named as suspects as Fall River police and fire officials investigate an arson case at a city landmark.

Firefighters knocked down flames Saturday morning at the Coughlin School on Pleasant Street. The first and second floors of the more than century-old building were heavily damaged, and the roof collapsed.

Investigators deemed it a case of arson and determined that two people broke into the school earlier that morning.

The investigation led them to obtain arrest warrants for Kristopher Cabral and Jeffery Aguiar. Police also executed a search warrant at a Swindells Street apartment, where the suspects were suspected to have visited after the fire.

Early Sunday morning, both men turned themselves in at Fall River police headquarters and were placed under arrest on a charge of breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony.

Cabral, 27, of Fall River, and Aguiar, 24, of Plymouth, have been named as suspects in the arson and could face additional charges pending the outcome of the investigation, according to police.
