TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have formally charged a suspect in a nearly two-year-old murder in Taunton.
A formal complaint charging Flavio Daveiga with the previously unsolved murder of 24-year-old Edwin Rivera Jr. was handed up Wednesday, according to the Bristol County district attorney’s office.
Rivera was struck by a train in the area of Cushman Stret on the night of Nov. 25, 2013, but an autopsy later revealed he died as a result of gunshot wounds.
Daveiga, 23, of Taunton, was arrested two days later on charges of accessory to murder before the fact and obstruction of justice. He was held on $2 million bail and remains in custody.
As a result of the investigation by city and state police, the charges against Daveiga were upgraded to murder.
The district attorney’s office said he’s expected to be arraigned Friday in Taunton District Court.
