PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Thousands of people will be in downtown Providence Sunday for the CVS Health Downtown 5k, and the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority will be detouring bus routes in the area to accommodate the event.
Race day features the CVS Health Downtown 5k, the Tufts Health Plan High School Inspirational 3k and youth races of varying distances.

Francis Street will be closed between the statehouse and Memorial Boulevard between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m., and RIPTA will be detouring 23 bus routes during that time. The routes that are affected are 1, 3, 17, 19, 21, 30, 31, 33, 34, 35, 50, 51, 52, 54, 55, 56, 57, 60, 66, 72, 78, 92 and the R-Line.
RIPTA said all bus lines should expect minor delays around Kennedy Plaza between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Drivers should also expect delays in the downtown area.
