Providence man found guilty of drive-by murder

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Superior Court jury found a Providence man guilty of first-degree murder Friday.

According to Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s office, 21-year-old Chaquiro Blandino was found guilty of all charges in the drive-by shooting murder of 22-year-old Francis Rodriguez.

His charges include first-degree murder, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence resulting in death, assault with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a firearm without a license.

After an eight-day trial, the jury returned the verdict in three hours, officials said.

During the trial, prosecutors proved that, in May of 2014, Blandino fired a pistol several times at a vehicle driven by Rodriguez, who later died. The passenger, Marvin Vasquez, was not injured.

Blandino testified during the trial, saying he shot the weapon in self-defense.
