Bellingham man accused of stabbing father

BELLINGHAM, Mass. (WPRI) — After a more than two-hour standoff at a Bellingham condominium complex, a man charged with stabbing his father is in police custody.

According to police, Ryan Tate barricaded himself inside a unit at the Maple Brook Condo Complex at about 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said he’s accused of stabbing his father in the back and hand.

A SWAT team was brought in for assistance. Police said they used a flash bomb to enter the home and had to sedate Tate. His father was taken to UMass Hospital in Worcester to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Tate, 30, is charged with assault and battery on a family member, aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and destruction of property.

Police said he was transported to Milford Regional Medical Center to be evaluated.
