NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Massachusetts State Police confirm they are looking into a deadly accident that happened Tuesday morning in New Bedford.
Police said Lazaro S. Rosa, 66, of New Bedford lost control of his Honda CRV around 8:52 a.m. on the Church Street/Exit 5 off-ramp of Route 140 South. They said the vehicle drove over the grass at the end of the ramp, crossed over Phillips Road, and ended up back on Route 140.
Police said Lazaro was pronounced dead at the scene. They said a preliminary investigation indicates he may have suffered some kind of medical incident prior to the crash. It is unknown if Lazaro’s death was related to injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities closed the Exit 5 ramp to Route 140 South for about 2 1/2 hours while police investigated.
