KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island freshman Tez Wilson was named the CAA Football Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning.
Wilson returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter of Saturday’s 20-0 victory over Delaware. It was his first career touchdown, and the first pick-six for Rhody in 24 games, dating back to Tyrone Jenkins’ 43-yard return against Central Connection State on Sept. 28, 2013.
Wilson also had two tackles, one tackle for loss and two pass break ups as the Rhody defense posted its first shutout in nine seasons. The last shutout came in a 3-0 win over Maine on Oct. 28, 2006.
For the season, Wilson has 29 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception, three pass break ups and one forced fumble. He has appeared in all six games for the Rams.
Wilson is the second Rhode Island player in as many weeks to earn a weekly CAA Football honor. Harold Cooper was named the Special Teams Player of the Week last Monday.
