PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — El Tiburon Sports Bar was open for business Saturday night, hours after police say three people were shot inside early Saturday morning.
Providence police were called to the Valley Street bar around 1:45 a.m.
According to a police report, a man and two women were shot and had to be treated at Rhode Island Hospital. The 30-year-old man was lying on the ground in the bar when police arrived.
Outside, police found a 32-year-old woman in the parking lot who had reportedly been shot in the leg. She and the man were each taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The other female victim, age 19, also suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. She drove herself to the hospital, according to police.
The alleged shooter is described by police as a black male, about 5-feet-4-inches tall, wearing a black windbreaker and black jeans.
The bar is also the site of a 2007 homicide – also a shooting. At the time, police said the bar was a constant source of trouble.
Patrons leaving the bar Saturday night, unaware of the latest shooting, said they have had concerns ever since the 2007 homicide.
Providence police say there will be an emergency Board of Licenses meeting to determine if it should close.
The shooting is under investigation and no suspects are in custody.
