PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence nightclub where two people were shot will remain closed for at least another month.

The Providence Board of Licenses decided Wednesday on a 50-day suspension for Van Gogh Lounge, minus the days the club has been closed since the Oct. 11 shooting.

The club’s owners will also have to pay a $2,500 fine, come up with a security plan, and hire police details once it reopens.

Peter Petrarca, the attorney for Van Gogh Lounge, said he would likely recommend to the club’s owners that they not appeal the board’s decision.

“I believe what the board members did was the right call,” Petrarca said after Wednesday’s hearing.

Police said the violence stemmed from a fight that began inside the nightclub. At last check, a man who was shot in the chest remained at the hospital, while another man who was shot in the legs was treated and released.
