WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Woonsocket police have a man in custody after he apparently barricaded himself inside his own apartment on Sayles Street Tuesday afternoon.
According to Chief Thomas Carey, nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution, but have since been allowed back into the building.
The suspect is known to police in some capacity, Carey said, but it’s not known why he locked himself inside his apartment. Woonsocket police called in their Special Response Team to assist at the scene.
One police officer is being treated for a minor injury. The chief said the suspect didn’t appeared to be injured, but he was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
The scene was cleared by 5:30 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
