Man charged with exposing himself in pharmacy parking lot

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Coventry man is facing charges after police said he was caught exposing himself in the parking lot of a Cranston pharmacy, and police are investigating whether he used his job as a carpenter to violate customers’ privacy.

According to police, Robert Zammarelli was naked and performing a sex act on himself while watching people through the window of his car in a parking lot on Broad Street Tuesday afternoon.

Zammarelli, 54, was arrested and charged with indecent exposure after a woman reported the suspicious activity. Police said it was his third indecent exposure arrest in the last ten years.

“The officers got him out of the vehicle,” explained Cranston Police Lt. Russell Henry. “He was allowed to put his clothes on, and after he was placed under arrest, officers found crack cocaine in the vehicle.”

Along with the drugs, police said they also found a bag of women’s underwear.

“The quantity of women’s underwear was suspicious, since it was apparent that Zammarelli was a carpenter by trade, and likely had access to people’s houses and personal items,” stated the police report obtained by Eyewitness News.

“Due to the nature of the crime he was arrested for, it seems it may be more to it, some type of fetish,” added Lt. Henry.

Zammarelli’s license to work as a contractor in Rhode Island expired two years ago.

Records show he was arrested in 2005 and 2008, both times after police said he performed a sex act on himself in the parking lot of two other pharmacies. In one of those cases, police said he exposed himself to a teenage girl.

Zammarelli was released on bond.
