BOURNE, Mass. (WPRI) – A prisoner who escaped from a police cruiser in Bourne turned himself in early Sunday morning.

According to police, 24 year-old Branden Coggeshall turned himself in at about 5 a.m. Sunday after wiggling out of handcuffs in the back of a cruiser.

An officer had arrested him Friday on several misdemeanor warrants and while he was sitting in the cruiser at police headquarters, he slipped out of the cuffs, and somehow managed to pass through the partition and get into the front of the cruiser. He then got out and ran away; the officer chased him and a multi-department search was unable to find him.

Police say he damaged some of the equipment in the cruiser during his escape.

He is now being charged with escape and destruction of property; he will be arraigned Monday morning in Falmouth District Court.
