PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Innovative chef and restaurateur George Germon passed away Tuesday following an illness. He was 70 years old.

Germon co-founded the iconic Al Forno Restaurant on South Water Street in Providence 35 years ago.

He and his wife, Johanne Killeen, are credited with the creation of grilled pizza, a signature dish at the eatery.

The couple even cooked for President Barack Obama during his visit to the city in 2010.
