NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have arrested and charged a New Bedford man with breaking and entering at a local restaurant.

According to police, detectives started investigating a former employee of the Black Whale Restaurant after multiple thefts occurred.

Police said surveillance video showed the suspect entering the restaurant during non-business hours.

On Oct. 24, the suspect was seen inside the building around the time some goods were stolen from a storage area, according to police.

The suspect returned to the building on Oct. 27 and was seen going into the storage area where another theft occurred.

On the morning of Oct. 28, the suspect returned a third time and was met by employees who tried to confine him, police said.

As officers arrived at the scene, the suspect, identified by police as Barrett Stone, ran on foot and was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

According to police, Stone, 27, was found with a 10-pound container of scallops in his possession.

Stone was arraigned Wednesday morning on three counts of breaking and entering and larceny.
