NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — The New Bedford Folk Festival will return in 2016 with the help of a local theater.

Mayor John Mitchell announced Monday that the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center would take over stewardship of the event. The theater will handle production and marketing of the festival.

According to the mayor, festival founders Helene and Alan Korolenko have also agreed to return as artistic directors.

Originally it appeared this year’s festival would be the last, when the Korolenkos announced they were retiring.
