TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — A Taunton teenager has been indicted as a youthful offender in a shooting that took place in late September, meaning he’ll be treated as an adult in the case.

A Bristol County Grand Jury handed up an indictment Friday charging Edson Montrond in the non-fatal shooting of another teenager in broad daylight, the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn announced Monday.

According to police, the 17-year-old victim was shot three times on Hamilton Street, right next to Hopewell Park.

Montrond, who was 16 at the time of the shooting, was indicted on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, armed assault with intent to rob, assault and battery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – causing serious bodily injury, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Montrond is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 20 in Taunton Juvenile Court. Because he was charged as a youthful offender, the AG’s office says the proceedings will be open to the public and Montrond faces adult criminal punishments if convicted.
