Fall River police warning of phone scheme

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Fall River police are warning residents of an ongoing phone scheme involving callers claiming to be collecting donations for a division of the police department.

According to a news release from the police department, the individuals claim to be representatives of the Fall River Constable Service who are seeking donations.

Police say the constable service has no affiliation with the Fall River Police Department.

According to the city clerk’s office, no business in the city operates under the name “Fall River Constable Service.”

Police say an investigation into this matter is underway.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from this service, officials advise that you write down the information they give you and then contact police. Residents should not donate money to charities or organizations they are not familiar with.

Anyone with further information is urged to contact Detective Dwayne Cabeceiras of the Fall River Police Department’s Major Crimes Division at 508-324-2796 or call the department’s anonymous tip line at 508-672-TIPS.
