SEEKONK, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in Seekonk rushed to the Bay Coast Bank on Taunton Avenue (Rt. 44) Tuesday morning for a report of a bank robbery.
Police said a man entered the bank around 9:49 a.m. and demanded money. Eyewitnesses told police the robber then ran to a taxi that was waiting nearby.
Within minutes of Seekonk police disseminating information about the suspect and the taxi, East Providence police spotted the vehicle and stopped the taxi on Pawtucket Avenue.
Officers arrested the two men inside, including the passenger, Kenny Jean, 20, of Boston – who they said robbed the bank; and Clyde Menelas, 28, of Dedham, Mass. – who they said was the driver of the taxi.
Police said there was evidence of the robbery in the taxi, though no weapon was found in the car, nor was one displayed during the crime.
Police said the men will be charged in Massachusetts with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.
According to a notice posted on the front door, the bank branch was closed for the day after the incident.
