Former dance instructor pleads guilty to sex assault charge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A former dance instructor who served prison time for child rape in Massachusetts has now pleaded guilty to a related federal charge in Rhode Island.

The U.S. Attorney’s office in Providence and the FBI said 37-year-old Keith Sampson will face sentencing in January after pleading guilty on Tuesday to a charge of interstate travel to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

In 2007, prosecutors said the former Providence man brought a 15-year-old student from Rhode Island to Easton, Massachusetts, where he sexually assaulted the girl after providing her with alcohol.

Sampson served about seven years in state prison in connection with that case and an unrelated statutory rape conviction.

He was placed in federal custody following his release from prison in Massachusetts.
