PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence firefighter who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash has been upgraded to good condition at the hospital.

A truck driven by Matthew Gallant was struck by another vehicle on Smithfield Avenue last month.

The driver of that vehicle, Lee Carrazana, turned himself in to police two days later.

Carrazana, 33, was ordered held without bail as a Superior Court violator.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to buy Gallant a new truck. In just 13 days, it reached its goal of raising $10,000.
