Fire breaks out at East Providence car wash

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I (WPRI) — Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to a fire at a car wash in East Providence.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from Suds Plus on Newport Avenue at about 12:15 p.m.

East Providence Battalion Chief Glenn Quick said materials were on fire inside the car wash, but no hazardous chemicals were involved.

Firefighters had the flames under control by 12:45 p.m. There were no injuries.

Traffic was detoured in the area as firefighters worked to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials said it does not appear suspicious.
