Police: Speed was a factor in Taunton crash

TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Taunton police say three teenage girls were injured Friday when the pickup truck they were riding in skidded off the road and crashed into a pole.

According to police, the girls were traveling northwest on Plain Street around 3:30 p.m. when they slammed into a utility pole, snapping it in half.

Police said all three girls were injured, but the driver had to be airlifted to the hospital via helicopter. The passengers sustained minor injuries.

Authorities said speed was definitely a factor in the crash. Witnesses said hundreds of feet of skid marks were on the road near the crash site.

As the truck was towed away from the scene, the impression of the pole could be seen pressed into the driver’s side of the truck.

The street was closed following the crash so the pole could be repaired.
