Officials ID Blackstone shooting victim

BLACKSTONE, Mass. (WPRI) — A Milford, Massachusetts man was shot and killed Friday night – and police remained on the scene Saturday to investigate the situation.

According to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office, Kevin Gonsalves was shot outside of a home on Mendon Street in Blackstone.

Officials said neighbors heard gunshots around 7:35 p.m. and called 911. Gonsalves, 33, was already dead when emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Richard Marchand, who lives next door to the house where the shooting took place, said he saw the victim draped over a railing before police arrived.

“I was in the shower,” he said. “I heard three bullet shots.”

Another neighbor told Eyewitness News no one was living in the house, noting that it was in foreclosure.

Neighbors say the crime is shocking, because the area is usually quiet.

“The town is a really nice, quiet town,” said James Theroux. “You don’t hear much or run into any problems, so it’s kind of shocking in a small town like this.”

A spokesman for the DA’s office said State Police detectives are investigating the shooting and the medical examiner will perform an autopsy.

At this time it is unclear if Gonsalves had any connection to the house.
