Strachan to receive Swede Nelson award

Providence, R.I. – The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston announced today that Brown senior wide receiver Brian Strachan (Wellesley, MA) has been named the recipient of the 70th Annual Nils V. “Swede” Nelson Award for outstanding achievement in academics, athletics, sportsmanship and citizenship.

The award will be presented at the Gridiron Club’s annual Bob Whelan College Football Awards Night on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Marriott Hotel in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Strachan is the third Brown student-athlete to be recognized with the Swede Nelson Award, joining Nick Hartigan (2005) and Steve Morgan (2007). Brian’s uncle, Steve Strachan, who played at Boston College, won the award in 1984.

Strachan is a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Semifinalist and a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. He was also an Academic All-Ivy selection as a junior.

In 2015, Strachan ranks 12th nationally and third in the Ivy League with 6.8 receptions per game. Strachan made a career-high 15 catches vs. Rhode Island, seventh best in Brown football history.

A Business Economics concentrator, Strachan has made 150 career receptions, eighth best in Brown football history. His 1,547 career receiving yards ranks 10th in the Brown record book.
